History

There is no single historically codified genre formally called Dusun folk-pop. Academic research instead documents the development of Kadazandusun popular music in Sabah, including recordings from the 1970s and 1980s that transferred rhythmic elements associated with Sumazau and traditional gong-ensemble culture into secular popular-song structures. Subsequent generations of Sabah artists continued to write in Dusun and related Kadazandusun languages while drawing on pop, rock, country, ballad and other commercial styles.
