Guqin Music
Description
Guqin music is a meditative and introspective style centered on the guqin, a seven-string zither revered for its subtle tones and expressive techniques. The sound is quiet, spacious, and highly nuanced, emphasizing inner reflection and emotional depth.
History
Guqin music has existed for over 3,000 years and is one of the oldest continuous musical traditions in East Asia. Historically associated with Confucian scholars, poets, and philosophers, the guqin became a symbol of refinement, moral cultivation, and spiritual balance. Pieces were traditionally performed in private settings such as studios, gardens, or temples. In 2003, UNESCO recognized guqin music as an Intangible Cultural Heritage, helping revive global interest in this ancient art.
