History

Lovers Rock took shape in London in the mid-1970s, growing out of Caribbean community spaces, dancehalls, pirate radio, and the UK sound-system scene. Sources differ on the exact first record or origin point, but Louisa Mark’s 1975 "Caught You in a Lie" is widely cited as an early defining single, and the style was soon associated with British Black youth culture and labels such as the original Lover's Rock imprint.
